The French-South African Institute of Technology (F’SATI) is a graduate school focused on the training of graduate students in the broad fields of Electrical Engineering and Information and Communication Technologies. F’SATI is currently based at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and the Cape-Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT).

F’SATI offers graduate programmes at Master’s and Doctorate Level.

A distinct feature of the F’SATI programmes is the international programmes offered through partner universities in France (MSc with ESIEE Paris, PhD and Co-tutelle Agreements with University of Paris-Est Créteil (UPEC), and University of Versailles Saint-Quentin (UVSD).

Objectives of F’SATI:

The following are the defined objectives of F’SATI as set out in the memorandum of understanding signed by various partners and stakeholders.

  • F’SATI at TUT & CPUT – The Institute shall be an internationally recognized African education, research and innovation center sustaining technology incubation supporting South African entrepreneurs, conducting research and supporting in the offering of qualifications.
  • International Activities - The Institute shall promote the exchange of students and lecturers with other countries including French overseas departments.
  • Industrial Partnership - The Institute shall help to promote active cooperation between French and South African industrial companies. The Institute shall strive to promote French technology in its activities.
  • Exchange of students - The Institute shall promote the exchange of students and lecturers with other countries.
  • French Language - French language courses shall be offered in collaboration with the “Alliance Française”.

History:

The following is a brief history of the formation and various MoUs signed over the past number of years.

· 4th of November 1994

Signature of a cooperation agreement in the fields of education, culture, sport, science and technology between the Republic of South Africa and the French Republic

· 17th of April 1996

An MoU was signed between the Government of the French Republic, National Research Foundation, Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Technikon Pretoria.

· 15th of December 2006

MoU was renewed for a second cycle that expired.

· 2nd of November 2007

MoU was renewed for a third cycle on the

· February 2008

The inauguration of the 2nd F’SATI branch at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology took place.

· 7th of November 2008

During the Management Board on the 7th of November 2008, F’SATI became F’SATI (French South African Technological Institute) to reflect a broader training portfolio.
